Commentary on " Night of the Scorpion”

by Nissim Ezequiel

The poem " Night of the Scorpion” by Nissim Ezekiel is definitely an account showing how the poet person remembers his mother being stung by a scorpion if he was fresh. However , he does not talk about his own feelings or reactions; we realize he can merely the narrator. Almost all of the poem is in the third person, as Ezekiel reports about what other people do and say and he uses various photos and detects to make all of us visualise the scenes. The poem is usually written in free sentirse with different series lengths with no rhyme. The first component is very long and full of activity even as we see how the villagers react and take action to the scorpion's bite by engaging in some type of witch-hunt. The second part, just three lines long, describes the single mother's reaction to the full event. It starts of by Ezekiel explaining the way the scorpion had come in as a result of heavy rain and concealed under a bag of grain, " …steady rain had driven him to get beneath a sack of rice. ” The scorpion does not appear to be portrayed every type of bad guy at first and therefore it probably just stung the mom instinctively when ever she attempted to approach the hiding place but then the poet alludes to bad in the key phrase " …diabolic tail…”, contrasting the scorpion to the satan, which clashes with our initial image of the insect. The poet uses alliteration to explain the moment with the sting, " Parting along with his poison…”. The scorpion then simply departs, " …he endangered the rain again…”, probably because he was scared off by all the villagers that then arrive to the home upon hearing about the sting. Ezekiel uses the simile " …like swarms of flies…”to explain their amount and behaviour and then grows it in the following line, " …buzzed the brand of The almighty a hundred times…”. The onomatopoeia of " buzzed” allows us to hear the noise that they made. The key reason why the villagers are when compared to flies is usually to show just how exasperating they are really and that they aren't welcome, like flies. This kind of displays...
